Permits and Applications

All applications are accessible online.  Fire Protection Certificate Applications need to follow the eFPC process and emailed to abroumand@montecitofire.com once completed.  The Burn and Tent permits may be emailed to PreventionMail@montecitofire.com, mailed or brought in to the fire station/headquarters building located at 595 San Ysidro Rd., Santa Barbara, CA 93108. There are no fees for any permit issued by the Montecito Fire Department.

Address Application

Montecito Fire Department is the agency responsible for issuing and/or changing all addresses within the jurisdictional area.

Upon receipt of the completed application, a fire department inspector will review the request and contact the applicant with approval status.

Building Permits

All Building Permits are issued by Santa Barbara County Building and Safety, located at 123 S. Anapamu St., Santa Barbara, CA 93101. If a Fire Protection Certificate (FPC) is required, it will be completed at the county office and delivered to the Montecito Fire Department for review.

Burn, Welding and Blast Permits

A Burn Permit is required for all outdoor burning activity, excluding BBQ cooking. This includes:

  • Agricultural Burning 
  • Bonfire
  • Fire Hazard Reduction Burning

An approved permit is required by law for any open fire, welding or blasting, and is only valid when approved by designated personnel with the Montecito Fire Department. Click here to access the Burn Permit Application. All permits must be submitted in person to Montecito Fire Department or by email to : PreventionMail@montecitofire.com.  Once the application is received, the applicant will be contacted by the Montecito Fire Department to schedule an inspection of the potential operation. During the inspection, the inspector will verify the responsible party is aware of the specific requirements identified on the permit and have applied the appropriate mitigation measures. 

Burning is prohibited during Fire Season, Sundays, and Holidays. Burn permits are valid only on days designated by the California Air Resource Board as Permissive Burn Days. Permissive Burn Days can be cancelled by the Fire Chief and/or the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District.
